Broughton And Ermysted’s Grammar School Forge Student Work Experience Partnership

About Broughton

About Broughton

Skipton-based life sciences contract research organisation Broughton is set to welcome two students from Ermysted’s Grammar School this week as part of their work experience programme, which aims to help prepare students for the modern workplace and equip them with essential skills for the future.

Students Sam (Year 12) and Lucas (Year 10) will join Broughton for a week-long work experience in the laboratories at their Coleby House site, where they will gain exposure to Broughton’s laboratory operations and be allowed to undertake and observe a range of analytical testing methods.

Broughton understands how challenging it can be to secure the first step into a laboratory of any chosen field and believes that working with local schools and colleges not only gives students the necessary experience but also provides the opportunity for Broughton to cultivate homegrown talent.

Julia Say, Director of HR at Broughton said: “We are delighted to welcome Sam and Lucas to Broughton and to be working in partnership with Ermysted’s Grammar School.  Gaining an insight into a fully functioning laboratory is a fantastic opportunity for those students who are interested in a career in science to get some real-life practical experience and to give them a flavour of what a scientific career could offer them."

“At Broughton, we are committed to working with local schools, colleges, and universities. We offer a diverse range of experiences from school work experience to one-year student placements and apprenticeships.”

Nina Rose, Assistant Head of Middle School and Careers Co-Ordinator at Ermysted’s said: “The collaboration between Broughton and Ermysted’s Grammar School highlights a shared commitment to youth development and community engagement. As a school, Ermysted’s remains committed to providing comprehensive work experience opportunities for our Year 10 and Year 12 students. Our programme is designed to inspire, motivate, and develop employability skills, and give pupils invaluable insights into the world of work."

“We love hearing our pupils talk about the experiences they have had at different companies, and are proud when we receive feedback from companies telling us how well those pupils did in their workplace. It's rewarding to see our pupils grow in confidence and develop the skills that will prepare them for the next step in their career journeys.”

Any schools, colleges or students interested in work experience, placement or apprenticeship opportunities are encouraged to contact the Broughton HR team for more details. Broughton offers work experience in June/July, apprenticeships in September/October, and student placements in September/October for one year.
